European School, Laeken

Dear all,
The European School venture started in Luxembourg in 1952-1953, about 60 years
ago. More precisely, the first European School nursery classes opened their doors in
April 1953 and the first primary classes opened on October 4th. This means that we
will be celebrating our 60th anniversary in April 2013!

In these sixty years the European School network has grown and enlarged in a
considerable way. Moreover, this year’s school start in September will be a very
special one for our school system.

We have the outmost pleasure to announce that the long lasting building processes
of Luxembourg II and Brussels IV are finally finalized. Both Schools will start the
school year 2012-2013 on a new and wonderful campus site. The staff of both
schools has had an extremely busy summer preparing the installation of new
infrastructures and organizing the relocation. We would like to thank them as well
as the headmasters and deputy heads of these two schools for their outstanding
efforts! We would also like to address our sincere gratitude to the Luxembourgish
and Belgian authorities for their investments and for their excellent co-operation
throughout the building process!

The European School Brussels I will also have a challenging start. Due to the
renovation of the Fabiola building about 450 nursery and primary 1 pupils will move
temporarily to the Berkendael School!

Furthermore our European School network has enlarged with two brand new
accredited Schools. The first ever Type III school, the Europäische Schule RheinMain
Bad Vilbel, will open near Frankfurt, and the seventh Type II school, the Europese
School Den Haag Rijnlands Lyceum, will open in The Hague. We wish all the pupils,
parents and staff members of these two new schools a heartly welcome into our
European School family!

Excellente rentrée à tous !
